Kalani Hawaii Private Lodging

I've stayed at many hotels, hostels, condos and airbnbs across Hawaii, and Kalani Lodging is at the top of the list! The rooms and bathrooms are pristine, the patio and yard areas are spacious and there was plenty of room to curl up solo with a book, or chat with the other guests. The hosts, Maria and Bernie, are lovely and were always quickly responsive while we were planning our visit, and during our stay. Bernie is certainly salty, but he has a heart of gold and is a treasure trove of North Shore history and recommendations. He drove us around on our first day there, giving us fantastic pointers on where to eat and what to do during our stay. Only complaint is that we couldn't stay longer, and we hope to visit again in the future!

Staying at Kalani Private Lodging was one of the highlights of my trip. The property is absolutely beautiful—lush, peaceful, and impeccably maintained. Everything was in great shape, from the fully stocked kitchen to the cozy, clean room and the serene outdoor spaces. You can tell a lot of care goes into every detail. What made the experience even more special were the hosts, Bernie and Maria. They are incredible. Bernie went above and beyond to make sure all guests felt at home—offering amazing local recommendations, the occasional ride if needed, and just genuinely wanting everyone to have a great time. They even had snorkels, surfboards, and other gear available to borrow which made it that much easier to dive into the local lifestyle. And you truly can’t beat the location—right across the street from Sunset Beach. Whether you’re there to relax, surf, explore, or just soak it all in, Kalani feels like home in paradise. I’m already dreaming of coming back!

Loved our stay here. Backstory: We had a last minute change to the original location we were staying on another part of the island and these folks saved our butt at 8pm by not only supplying us with a room but actually meeting us on the main road to escort us in! We stayed in their studio building which was gorgeous and had air conditioning, all the amenities we could need and a side yard that was absolutely beautiful for relaxing when we weren't at the beach. They saved our vacation, and made us feel absolutely at home.

We stayed in the ginger loft and had an awesome experience. The rooms were clean and had a lovely view. The bathrooms are shared but were always available and immaculately clean. The shared kitchen had everything you could need and the outdoor space was incredible with lots of seating and a beautiful garden. Bernie was the best part of the stay, he cares about his property, the local area and his guests and has lots of tips on how to spend your day. You can't be bored in North Shore staying with Bernie.

This is genuinely one of the nicest places I’ve ever stayed at. It had amazing access to the beach and is located in a beautiful area that’s not too congested. The rooms and common spaces were really nice and the outdoor areas were beautiful. However, I would say my favorite part of my stay here was the staff. Bernie and Maria were incredible hosts and I had the opportunity to meet Mike and April who work on the property as well—they were all so kind and welcoming and made sure you felt like family! I wish I could’ve stayed for another month but hopefully I can come back to visit again soon. I would highly recommend staying here for anyone visiting O’ahu!!

The best place to stay on North Shore by far, best hospitality, and Maria and Bernie are the nicest people ever. It’s also the best emplacement to go to the beach and to go surf. So close to every surf spots

My wife and I stayed here and it was an absolute highlight of our Northshore trip. Bernie was a fantastic host. He showed us around the first day to get our bearings and was always helpful in any questions We stayed in the "Junior Suite" which was perfect! There was one king bed and 2 bunk beds which would be perfect for anyone with kids. It had a private back yard. An outdoor "Tahitian" shower which was so refreshing. A fully stocked kitchen with fridge, coffee maker, etc. The place also came with all the beach gear including beach chairs, umbrellas, snorkeling gear, boogie boards, and coolers which we used those everyday. The location was perfect, just across the street from the popular sunset beach, so we can easily walk there without having find parking. It is centrally located so we can easily drive to all the main beaches/communities around the Northshore. We could not have picked a better place and it exceeded all our expectations. We would definitely stay here again.

Actually, my family stayed in the Kalani Hawaii Private Lodging /Pacific Guest House in October 2024, so I’m a bit behind on this review. My daughter planned her destination wedding in Hawaii, I chose Kalani lodging as it was nearby her wedding venue in Waimea Valley. I must say our stay was an amazing and satisfying experience considering some hectic moments we’ve gone through preparing for the day before, and the day of the wedding. Bernie was great, he was attentive, and very patient even if having our bridesmaids, photographer, makeup artists in the property with us but only for couple of hours to dressed up before going to the venue, we weren’t making any disturbance noise or anything like it in respect of others and the rules. The Pacific Guest House has its own step up entrance and a walkway leading to a lush green garden which was perfect for my daughter’s wedding photo background that we enjoyed very much. Has private porch, also a nice hammock to lay down and relax. Everything in the house and outside was clean and well organized. Short walk across the road to go to the beach, watch surfers and watch the sunset. It’s a peaceful place in north shore and we felt very comfortable and safe as this property has a secured gate. We could have stayed longer but we had to go back to Waikiki to sent off friends and relatives that attended the wedding then we ourselves eventually left the island to go back home. Although I wasn’t able to meet Maria personally, she was very helpful from the beginning of my inquiry and accommodating my reservation requests, sending me information and instructions via email. Bernie and Maria thank you for sharing your home and for contributing to the wonderful wedding event experience that my family will remember. Will definitely recommend to others. -Tess
